Vline train and bus services run regularly between Melbourne and Ararat, with less frequent bus connections through to Pomonal and Halls Gap Monday to Friday (sometimes from Ararat station, sometimes via Stawell). There are also connections to Horsham and beyond. The Vline website provides the most up to date timetables and options. Many local residents find leaving a car at Ararat Railway station safe and convenient.
